Abstract
Building a Movement through Networks and Advocacy: Chapter 9 examines successful and effective networking configurations around the world in which localized organizations working with children and young people increase their impact by aligning with other like organizations. Such networks can be country-specific, issue-specific, or much broader. They can disseminate information and create platforms for collective action. Related to the creation and expansion of networks is the notion of building a movement for children, similar to social movements that have elevated issues affecting women, or brought attention to specific diseases such as HIV/AIDS and breast cancer. This chapter examines the need for such a movement and analyzes needed voices within this movement, including those of the children themselves.
