Mexico and the Post-2015 Development Agenda

Abstract

Just over three years into President Enrique Peña Nieto’s government, a series of priorities and actions on security and foreign policy issues have been confirmed; however, doubts exist as to the fullness and scrupulousness of the commitments to fulfilling the 2030 Development Agenda through the achievement of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 corresponding targets, despite the great efforts being made by the Mexican foreign service. For example, Mexico’s Head of State has driven an effective deployment of doctrines, resources and strategies toward the Asia-Pacific region, such as The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and the Trans-Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership Agreement (TPSEP); the UN’s Peacekeeping Force, the extension of the hemispheric and trans-Pacific security perimeter led by Washington, and the State visits by the Royal Families of Spain and the United Kingdom in 2015; the latter are just a few of the administration’s more notable, strategic moments.
