Abstract
History presents the fact that structures are unstable and institutional arrangements are erratic. With this said, there is hope for Black athletes acceptance into the full educational intercollegiate experience. They can relinquish the title of being modern day gladiators, as coined by Dr. Harry Edwards; who are specifically used to entertain the White masses and accumulate capital for predominantly White institutions (collegiate and corporate). In this current paradigm, their athletic brawn has been their means; their ticket to educational opportunities or fortune and fame through professional athletic careers. A paradigm shift is required to bring about a greater balance between athletic services rendered and educational services received, as well as, academic achievement and athletic aspiration.
We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.
