Abstract

How do conflicts end? Non-violent conflicts are terminated either by voluntary agreement, by threat (imposed termination), or by withdrawal before the next level of conflict intensity is reached. Negotiations are the most important means for bringing about such forms of termination. Yet the ending of a conflict is not necessarily meaning the same as a political solution. A whole range of modalities exist.
