Abstract

The Republic of Ecuador is situated in the north-west of South America, with about one-fifth of its area lying north of the equator. It is bounded on the north by Colombia and by a narrow extension of Peru, on the south by Peru, on the east by Colombia and Peru and on the west by the Pacific Ocean and Peru. The northern part of Peru was long claimed by Ecuador, giving her a frontier with Brazil, but the claim was abandoned in an agreement signed with Peru on 29 Jan., 1942. For map of the boundary between Ecuador and Peru see The Statesman’s Yeak-Book, 1942.
