Abstract
The motivations for individuals or organizations in seeking coaching are as varied as the approaches to coaching itself. Historically, coaching was used as a developmental tool for senior executives, but having realized its benefits organizations are increasingly cascading it down to all levels. Some organizations are endeavouring to establish a coaching culture to integrate coaching as part of a management and leadership style. Coaching is also seen as a powerful tool in aiding individuals as well as the organization in managing ever-changing landscapes. At the senior level of the organization, in particular, the ability to manage change requires skills and competencies beyond the standard practical and technical skills of management and is guaranteed to include the crucial skills of managing people.
