Abstract
Dubai is different in several respects from the other emirates. Although small in land size—about 4 percent of the UAE with 3,885 square kilometers—it has roughly one third of the population. The capital, Dubai city, is located on a deepwater creek that divides the old city, Bur Dubai, from the northern, more modern section of Dera. Dubai’s inland town of Hatta is a tourist haven roughly 100 km southeast of Dubai city on the road to Fujaira and Oman.
