Abstract

The body of this book was written during the spring and summer of 2011, and this afterword is being composed in December of this remarkable year. It is always risky to try to write a contemporaneous account of a major change in the world and then wait for many months before it is published. Things that once seemed certain may have unraveled, and the course of events may have altered dramatically.
