Abstract

It should come as no surprise, given the great diversity of religious perspectives on the African continent, that there is a similarly immense variety of creation myths that have been transmitted over many centuries through the living, immediate medium of oral tradition. In this chapter, I focus on those myths that provide an insight into perceptions of animals — that is, their status and value.
