Abstract

Lepidopteran insects and their cells are very useful as hosts for the production of heterologous proteins by baculovirus expression vectors (1,2). However, the gene expression is transient because the infected cells ultimately die from viral infection. Furthermore, the polyhedrin promoter is expressed only during the very late phase of infection.
