Graham, Marcus William Robert De Vere

Marcus Graham was born in the county of Durham, England, on March 25, 1915. As a boy, he became intrigued with natural history. At the start of World War II, he enlisted in the British army, and served in India from 1942 to the end of 1945. But he had begun to publish entomological papers in 1941. At the end of 1945, he entered Trinity College, Dublin, and graduated in 1950 with a B.A. degree and a B.Sc. degree. In Dublin, he studied the taxonomy of Braconidae, then turned to Chalcidoidea. He was soon appointed to the post of curator of the insect collections of the Hope Department of Entomology, Oxford University. He married in 1953. In 1955, he was awarded the degree of D.Phil. from Oxford University. He taught, took part in administration, and conducted taxonomic research on Hymenoptera until his retirement in 1981.
