n Two vibrations of slightly different frequencies f 1 and f 2 when added together, produce in a detector sensitive to both these frequencies, a regularly varying response which rises and falls at the “beat” frequency f b = [f 1 – f 2]. It is important to note that a resonator which is sharply tuned to f b alone will not resound at all in the presence of these two beating frequencies. See Combination Frequencies.
