Virion, Definition

Virion is a closed shell of proteins protecting a nucleic acid material which has the potential to self-replicate upon entry into the host cell. A virion is often spherical or rod shaped. It may contain the host cell membrane (enveloped) or be devoid of it (non-enveloped).
