Name and Degrees
Dr. O. Ivar Lovaas received his B.A. in Social Studies from Luther College, Decorah, Iowa, in 1951; an M.S. in psychology from the University of Washington, Seattle, Washington, in 1954; and a Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Washington in 1958.
Major Appointments
From 1958 until 1961, Lovaas worked at the University of Washington’s Child Development Institute as an acting assistant professor. In 1961, he accepted a position as an assistant professor in the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), Psychology Department, where he spent the remainder of his career. He became an associate professor in 1965, tenured professor in 1967, and professor emeritus in 2004.
In 1962 Dr. Lovaas founded the UCLA Clinic for the Behavioral Treatment of Children, and between 1972 and 1980, Dr. Lovaas acted as a Research Specialist at Camarillo State Hospital, Camarillo, California.
