Definition

A form of computer-mediated reality that superimposes images into the view of a user. It uses the existing environment, complementary imagery, and interactivity to bring an enhanced experience.

Introduction

Augmented reality is a form of technology that falls under the category of computer-mediated reality. Like its fellow technologies, such as virtual reality, this technology allows users to interact in a computer environment. This technology, however, allows users to interact within their existing world, instead of a fully immersive one. Only a few decades old, the technology still has had an interesting path to its more mainstreamed state that we enjoy today.
