Harmon-Jones was born on January 14, 1968, in Florence, Alabama (USA). He earned his B.S. in Psychology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1990 and his M.A. in Psychology from the University of Kansas in 1993. He earned his Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Arizona in 1995. During these years, he conducted research under the supervision of Janet Boldizar and Rex Wright (at UAB); Jack Brehm and Dan Batson (at KU); and Jeff Greenberg and John Allen (at UA).
Professional Career
Harmon-Jones first worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston under the supervision of Ernest Barratt (1995–1996). He then taught at the University of Texas, Arlington (1996–1997), the University of Wisconsin-Madison (1997–2004), and Texas A&M University (2004–2011).
