Early Life and Educational Background

Matthias Ziegler was born on December 17, 1978 in Heiligenstadt in the former German Democratic Republic (East Germany). He attended school in Eisenach, Germany. During a high school exchange to Beloit, WI, USA, he took psychology classes which sparked his interest in psychology. After high school, Ziegler studied psychology at the Philipps-University Marburg (1999–2005), Germany. His minor was economics. He wrote his diploma thesis on faking achievement motivation tests under the supervision of Prof. Lothar Schmidt-Atzert and Prof. Markus Bühner. Moreover, he specialized in personality psychology under the supervision of Prof. Gerhard Stemmler. In 2007 Ziegler earned a doctoral degree in psychology at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University (LMU) in Munich, Germany. The thesis had the title:“Situational demand and its impact on construct and criterion validity of a personality questionnaire: State and trait, a couple you just can't study separately!”....
