Definition
Analysis of financial information concerning public bodies in order to determine their capacity to meet current and future needs while maintaining an adequate level of services to society.
Introduction
The financial problems experienced in the 1970s by cities such as Cleveland and New York, followed by the global turmoil of the economic crisis that began in 2008, have motivated efforts to understand the economic and financial characteristics of public organizations. In consequence, many studies have been undertaken to develop concepts and define magnitudes to enhance our understanding of these questions, to develop models to evaluate them, and even to predict the financial tensions that may affect a public administration in the future.
