Definition

Public administration risk management serves a municipality to gain greater transparency about opportunities and risks to achieve goals better and more reliably. It aims to ensure that public funds are used appropriately and provides an overview of the risk situation.

Introduction

In recent years, the topic of risk management has emerged to a new level of importance in the public sector (Domokos et al. 2015). Risk management describes a process to identify and prevent risks with a systematic identification, analysis, evaluation, monitoring, and active management of risks. A systematically implemented risk management helps the fulfilment of management responsibilities (Wengert 2013). Increasing the effectiveness of risk management activities, this development has also become of interest for the public administration.
