National Institute on Disability Independent Living and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR)

Membership

A National Institute on Handicapped Research was established by the 1978 Rehabilitation, Comprehensive Services, and Developmental Disabilities amendments (P.L. 95–602) to the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Public Law 93–112). Its name was subsequently changed to the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) by the 1986 amendments to the Rehabilitation Act. NIDRR then became the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR) through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act passed in Fiscal Year 2014. As part of this legislation, NIDILRR moved from the Department of Education to the new Administration for Community Living (ACL) within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
