Handbook of Interpersonal Violence and Abuse Across the Lifespan

Abstract

The Family Justice Center (FJC) movement is growing throughout the United States and internationally. FJCs offer coordinated, co-located resources for survivors of intimate partner violence and other forms of abuse in a single location, with a goal of reducing the burden of accessing services for victims and survivors. Research and evaluation strategies can be used to enhance the effectiveness of FJCs. This chapter provides an overview of useful strategies for conducting needs assessment and ongoing program evaluation to document the impact of FJCs, including both quantitative and qualitative methodologies that are grounded in best practices for community-engaged research. Examples will be provided from the authors’ work conducting research and evaluation related to the Guilford County FJC in Greensboro, North Carolina. Finally, the need for more published research to document the impact of the FJC movement nationally and internationally will be discussed.
