Zusammenfassung
Der Beitrag zeigt, wie sich der symbolische Interaktionismus als eine einflussreiche Tradition der Sozialpsychologie und der Soziologie entwickelt hat. Nach einer Diskussion seiner Ursprünge im amerikanischen Pragmatismus und bei George H. Mead wird Herbert Blumers theoretisches Programm diskutiert. Anschließend wird die poststrukturalistische Transformation des symbolischen Interaktionismus behandelt. Vor allem mit den Arbeiten von Norman K. Denzin wird eine Hinwendung zu Performance, Intervention und Kritik verbunden.
