Huguangyan in Zhanjiang is a crater lake. This type of lake is composed of a low flat crater that forms during a phreatomagmatic eruption induced by the interaction of hot magma with groundwater. This type of lake is also known as a maar. Huguangyan has an area of 2.3 km2 and a water depth of 22 m. It is one of the maars of the Leiqiong volcanic zone. It never dries up and has a self-cleansing ability (Fig. 28).
