Baiyang Lake is also known as the West Lake, and it was formerly called Jueli (Carp Digging) Lake. It is the largest lake in the Haihe Plain and is located in Baoding City, Hebei Province. It receives water from Tanghe River along the upstream parts of the Daqinghe River and Zhulong River of the Haihe River system. Downstreams, the lake water is discharged through the Daqinghe River. This lake has rich aquatic resources, including more than 50 species of freshwater fish, an extensive area of reefs and thousands of acres of lotus, which make this lake famous for its name the ‘Pearl of Northern China’. The Yanling (Wild Geese) water guerrilla’s brigade was based here during the anti-Japanese war (Fig. 2).
