Ancient man used stones to strike hard rocks to form stone flakes or stone cores for use as tools. There are four methods of creating stone tools: (1) hammering method, (2) anvil method, (3) smashing method, and (4) indirect impact method. Chipped stone tools can be divided into pointed tools, scrapers, choppers, carving tools and spherical tools. The main materials used for making chipped stone tools are flint, onyx, quartzite, quartz sandstone, hornstone and various silicified rocks. Pointed tools have sharp tips, and two to three sides are polished. They generally have a suitable size for holding by ancient men. Pointed tools can be further divided into large and heavy pointed tools, triangular pointed tools and small pointed tools.
