Nidang-Type Stone Forest Landscape in Nidang, Guizhou

This is a representative type of carbonaceous stone forest landscape. Nidang Stone Forest in Xingyi, Guizhou Province, is a typical example. This stone forest formed in the Middle Triassic limestone strata and contains irregular stone columns with prominent sharp pointed column tops and vertical dissolution marks, which are clearly indicative of surface water erosion. The column bases are surrounded by red earth with eroded holes, which are a sign of underground corrosion. The column heights range from 5 to 12 m, and the highest can reach 25 m. The Nidang-type stone forest has elegant forms and development potential for tourism. Nidang Park in Xingyi National Geopark, Guizhou Province, is a typical stone forest landform of this kind (Fig. 6).
