This geopark is located in northwestern Fujian Province. It has an area of 492 km2 and became a global geopark in 2005. It has four scenic districts, namely, Shiwang, Dajinhu, Baixianya and Jinyushan, as well as the Taining Ancient City. It is composed of a red sedimentary Danxia landform but also has granite and volcanic landforms as well as interesting geologic structures and geomorphology. The geopark is rich in biodiversity and culture. It contains more than 80 narrow rock ravines, more than 150 corridor-type valleys, and a group of canyons composed of 240 gorges. The geopark is characterised by deep canyons, cliffs, caves and ecology.
