Water quality is determined by its physical (e.g., colour, turbidity, and odour), chemical (e.g., inorganic and organic contents) and biological (e.g., bacteria, microorganisms, plankton, and benthos) properties. Studies include the background values of natural water and suspended matter in river belts as well as the content and composition of pollutants and their temporal and spatial variations. A series of water quality parameters and water quality standards for drinking, industrial and fishery waters have been defined to evaluate water quality.
