This geopark is located in Yonghe County in Shanxi Province, and it is situated in the Jinxia Valley section of the Yellow River. The geopark has a total area of 105 km2, and its main geological features are concentrated in an area of 41 km2. It was designated as a national geopark by the Ministry of Land and Resources in December 2011. The geopark has five scenic areas: Hero Bay, Yonghe Pass Bay, Guojia Bay, Hehuili and Xianren Bay. The main geological features are the incised meandering valleys that developed in the Loess Plateau and the longest yellow riverway in the world. It is the largest, most complete and concentrated meandering system in China. The main attractions include the five large headlands and bays with sand bars in front of the bays, concave erosional collapse cliffs, river terraces, meandering tributaries (including hanging valleys), giant erosional triangular facets and small islands (e.g., Shoe Island).
