This is an inland evaporative and sedimentary salt deposit that formed in the Quaternary in eastern China. Located in the southern part of Yuncheng City, Shanxi Province, Yuncheng Salt Lake is an important saltwater lake in eastern China. It has two parts – a solid deposit and a liquid deposit. Based on the depth and distribution, the solid deposit is divided into the Jiecun mine section, the Dongtan mine section, the Xitan mine section and the Beian mine section, and the liquid deposit is divided into surface brine and inter-layer brine. The surface lake water is mainly a sulphate brine. Yuncheng Salt Lake was originally known as Jiechi Lake. The mining history of the lake dates back 4,000 years. Historians believe that because of Yuncheng Salt Lake, the eastern Huanghe River region was among the first areas of development of Chinese culture.
