This geopark is located in Zanhuang County, Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province. It became a national geopark in 2004. It is situated along the upper reaches of the Huaihe River near Taihang Mountain. The most interesting geological features in the geopark are the stratigraphic structures and the Palaeoproterozoic Great Wall sandstone, which includes cross bedding and corrugated structures. Zhangshiyan is a peak in the middle part of the Taihang Mountains with an elevation of 1,774 m. The rocks are Proterozoic metamorphosed quartz sandstone that is 1.8 billion years old. The geomorphic landforms are characterised by long, steep cliffs and concave valleys. The landscape was formed by the uplift of the Taihang Mountains and undercutting and erosion by water along faults.
