Alexander von Humboldt (1769–1859) was a famous German naturalist, geographer and explorer. He was one of the founders of modern geology, geography, climatology, geomagnetism, and phytogeography. He travelled all over Western Europe and later to North America and South America to investigate and explore. His 30 volume ‘Personal Narrative Travels to the Equinoctial Regions of the New Continent’ is considered the first regional geographic masterpiece in the world. His other famous works include ‘Cosmos (5 volumes)’ and ‘Central Asia (3 volumes)’.
