Fulgurite refers to ornamental stones that get their names from the places where they are produced. Naming a stone based on its production location is a tradition in China; the advantage of this practice is that it is more scientific to name the stone for the production location, rock strata or geomorphic landscape. This name-oriented approach helps the community gain recognition by achieving the objective of ‘giving the place the name of the stone while giving the stone the name from the place’. Like Arctic stone, several areas of famous stone production have been coined by the Chinese Ornamental Stone Association as ornamental stone townships or ornamental stone regions (Fig. 15).
