Protection areas in a geopark can be zoned and classified according to the global, national and regional significance of the geological heritage or geosites that are vulnerable to damage by human activities. Different levels of protected areas should have clear boundaries and be supported by appropriate protection measures. For the classification of geological heritage protection, please refer to ‘geological heritage protection plan’.
