Abstract
Problems of market failure and preferences for a wider distribution of recreational opportunities than might be provided by private market exchanges, have led to a large measure of public provision of parks and other recreational facilities in countries throughout the world. This nonmarket nature of recreation allocation has prompted most of the attention to recreation economics.
