Abstract
Maurice Allais was born on 31 May 1911, in Paris. Originally a student at the Ecole Polytechnique he moved later to the Ecole Nationale des Mines (ENMP hereafter). He gained the doctorate of engineering of the University of Paris in 1949. He is currently director of Research at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) and Professor of Economic Analysis at the ENMP. The CNRS awarded him a gold medal in 1978, the first time this award was given to an economist. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Economics in 1988.
