Abstract

This chapter forms a guide to the use of the scanning tables presented in Part 6. The basic concepts of scanning are discussed. The contents and arrangement of the scanning tables are then described and guidelines for individual systems are given. Some applications of the scanning tables (layer symmetries in crystal structures, interfaces in crystalline materials, and the symmetry of domain twins and domain walls) are also described. This chapter is also available as HTML from the International Tables Online site hosted by the IUCr.
